Your Ride-or-Die Guide to What to Watch

Independent & studio film reviews, festival coverage, and curated recommendations — with substance over hype.

For the Watchers, the Wanderers & the Wise

Our Mission

Mother of Movies has been curating screen content since 2018 for film lovers, streamers, genre junkies, festival followers, and anyone who’s ever doom-scrolled asking, “What should I watch?” From Fantasia Film Festival coverage to streaming debuts and theatrical releases, we track the overlooked, the underhyped, and the films that leave a mark.

What We Offer

Reviews layered with analysis, tonal breakdowns, distributor context, filmmaker stamps, and thematic deep dives — decoding screen storytelling from cinematography to sound design. No pay-for-praise. If we love it, you’ll know. If we don’t, we won’t pretend, but we will try to be nice about it.

Independent cinema is the blood on the film knife, raw, risky, and often brilliant. We chase it through festival halls, algorithm shadows, and screener queues, calling it as we see it with dark wit and zero compromise. Moreton Bay-based, globally connected. As official Australian press for Fantasia Film Festival and a regular at IFC Cinema Brisbane premieres, we bridge festival exclusives with streaming accessibility.

Follow Us

Deep-cut reviews, trailers, genre cinema, forgotten gems, festival coverage, filmmaker insights, and screen conversations that don’t feel like a sales pitch (although sometimes we do try and plug things regularly).

Meet the Team

Reviews here come with an editorial voice — and occasionally, Eric the Cat Horror Reporter weighs in too (pilot episode live, more chaos incoming). Thoughtful comments are published under reviews; we’ve built a community that values honest discourse over echo chambers.
